ONLINE WORKSHOP: Fundamentals of Creating a Picture Book

Maine Media Workshops + College Via Zoom 10am-5pm ET with a lunch break from 1-2pm ET for five consecutive Thursdays plus weekly individual sessions

I’ve been teaching this workshop online since early 2021, after fighting some reluctance about Zoom-based learning and then discovering all reasons to love this form - the geographical diversity of students, the flexibility for one-on-one feedback sessions, the amazing connections students make with one another, and yes, the coziness of not having to leave the house in full-on winter Maine, to name a few! This January will be the fourth iteration, and the class is always a highlight of my year. I more or less clear my schedule for a five-week period to dedicate my head and heart to picture books in development and hanging out in the virtual studio with author/illustrators and visual storytellers. This is an intensive if you’re committed to the course goal of completing a dummy book; in five weeks we go from idea to dummy book, which is no small undertaking! There are weekly assignments to keep you on track, but you’ll also gain fundamental tools and resources that you can put to use at any time. Please feel free to reach out with any questions, I’m also happy to consider author-illustrator collaborations for the course but let’s talk before you register to make sure it’s a good fit.

Here’s a link to the course description and registration information.
