A monotype is a one-of-a-kind original work on paper. Blue Bear is named after my first bear, and partly inspired by notes, photos and newspaper clippings that have come to me in the mail over the years from my mom, who keeps me posted on black bear visits and happenings in my hometown. The process is a special version of monotype called a ‘trace’, which I learned from the wonderful Jean Gumpper. A trace monotype is delightfully unpredictable, press free and open to mixed media embellishments.
