Giant I is part of a series of experimental monotypes made from shaped plates in the spring and summer of 2023, and the first Giant in the group inspired in part by my home, and two books - Richard Powers’ Overstory and Richard Preston’s The Wild Trees. For Giant I, I sat under one of the majestic pines that has lived on Lake Winnecook/Unity Pond so much longer than we have. Looking up, I cut out a shaped plate from repurposed foiled plastic, and then painted it in the moment.
