Belfast Poetry Festival, Waterfall Arts Dance Annex, Belfast, ME
Amy Tingle/Waterfall Arts and I are collaborating on Maine’s first ever (that we know of) Crankie Matinee as part of the Belfast Poetry Festival, a beloved celebration of poetry now in its 20th year.
There is currently a CALL FOR WORKS to crankie creators throughout Maine and beyond, to exhibit and perform their crankies for the Crankie Matinee. If you have a crankie to show, please email me at imluckyplatt(at)gmail with the subject line “Crankie Matinee” for details and registration.
Interested in making a crankie? Amy and I will be hosting a pre-festival Crankie Workshop at Waterfall Arts on October 5, and workshop participants will have the opportunity to participate in the Crankie Matinee performance.
What’s a crankie? A crankie is time-based analog storytelling form that incorporates artwork in a long scroll form, often wound onto dowels and turned by a crank, and often accompanied by live narration, music and/or puppetry. Wow, fun! Stay tuned for details and please reach out to me via my contact form with any questions, interest, etc.
